Safety Checklist for Custom Home Building
Site safety rules must be communicated to all subs.
First Aid kit available and worker familiar with basic first aid practice.
Phone numbers for police, ambulance and fire available.
Temporary electrical service grounded.
All electrical tools grounded.
All electrical cords kept away from water.
Warning and danger signs posted in appropriate areas.
Hard hats and steel tipped shoes worn where needed.
Other protective gear available and used: goggles, gloves, etc.
Set a good example as a safety minded individual during the custom home construction.
Adequate slope on edges of all ditches and trenches over 5 inches deep.
Open holes and ditches fenced properly.
Open holes in sub floor properly covered or protected.
Scaffolding used and secure where needed.
Workers on roof with proper equipment.
Excess and or flammable scrap not left lying around the custom home.
No nails sticking up out of boards or other materials.
Gas cans have spark arrest screens.
Welding tanks shut off tightly when not in use, and stored upright.
Area where welders working checked for smoldering or slow burning wood.
Proper clearance from all power lines.
