These are rolled sections of fiberglass bonded to heavy duty craft paper. They must fit snugly betweeen studs and joists with no gaps to work properly. It loses effectiveness if wet, moist or compressed.
Sheathing
These lightweight rigid panels are nailed to the outside of exterior walls. Foil covered sheathing offers greater airtightness and resistence to abrasion. It can add considerably to the insulation value of your custom house.
Blown In Materials
Due to the ease of installation this type of insulation is popular in attics and in odd shaped spaces. However the drawbacks are that it can settle over time and offer less efficiency.
Care must also be taken to keep it away from vents that provide airt circulation in attics. Cellulose is the least expensive but is susceptable to rodents and moisture. Rock wool is the best compromise between cost and quality for this type of insulation.
